In today’s spotlight:
Enes Kartal – marketing manager, creator and proud father
Actively Seeking an Online Marketer
Enes’ title is ‘Marketing Manager,’ but at the moment, the missing factor is, unfortunately, a team. He’s actively searching for one because there are so many exciting things to do in the field of marketing! New initiatives in an international work environment, especially in online marketing. Initiatives he simply doesn’t have time for right now because he’s currently working alone, but he does what he can!
“Balance Between Work and Life”
Fortunately, he can arrange his full-time work hours according to his own schedule. This means he works from home when it suits him and avoids traffic on office days. This way, he has time to pick up his son from school or take his daughter to preschool. He loves spending time with them, and the work-life balance he’s found since working at QS Solutions has definitely helped with that. “Experiences and memories with the kids are more important to me than a flashy career with matching work pressure.”
Grateful for the Leerdam Glass Factory
Enes was born and raised in Leerdam. His grandfather came there to work temporarily in the glass factory, intending to return to Turkey after a while. But his grandfather stayed and brought his family—including Enes’ mother—to Leerdam, something Enes is still incredibly grateful for.
As a token of his gratitude to Leerdam and the glass factory, he interned for six months at the National Glass Museum during his studies, aiming to attract more young people to the museum. He succeeded, partly due to Enes’ initiative to develop a partnership with the local youth center!
A Reluctant Salesman
After completing his HBO degree in Advanced Business Creation, Enes initially ended up in various sales positions. He would have preferred a marketing role, but those weren’t readily available at the time. His first experience in sales was, in one word, terrible, but the next position went much better. In fact, he turned out to be incredibly good at it, partly due to his strong empathetic ability!
“In a Week, I Was Meeting with the Commercial Director”
And yet, the desire for a marketing job lingered. A marketing role was where his ambition lay, so when he got the chance to start as an online marketer elsewhere, he grabbed it with both hands. The experience he gained there led him to a large IT consultancy firm, where he single-handedly built up the marketing activities. The visibility that came with this earned him his current job at QS Solutions about two years ago. He was approached by a recruiter, and less than a week later, he was—virtually, due to COVID—meeting with the Commercial Director and one of the sales colleagues. “The rest,” as they say, “is history…”
CrossFit Enthusiast and Creator
In addition to his work, Enes is a passionate CrossFit enthusiast. He trains at least four times a week because, as he says with a laugh, “if you go less often, you just end up with more muscle pain!” He sees CrossFit as a reflection of real life. For example, when you have to do a lot of repetitions with a low weight under time pressure, it’s about staying motivated to keep going. Or when you train with a lot of weight, it’s a matter of not thinking, just focusing on your strength and pushing through. “And failing! Without failure, there’s no success.”
“What I love about marketing is simplifying complex things, especially in IT!”
In the evenings, Enes is often busy designing visuals for his label, Enkavisuals—illustrations with a meaning to explain complex things. He got into this via Twitter and Instagram, and now he has 5,000 and 40,000 followers on these platforms, respectively.
The feedback he receives makes him very aware of the impact he has on some people (“Quite a scary thought!”), and it gives him a good feeling to be able to motivate people in this way.
Translation
Enes also loves simplifying complex things in his work, which is one of the reasons he chose the IT sector. IT used to be mainly boring, old-fashioned, and focused on technology, but thanks to his empathetic ability, Enes is exceptionally skilled at translating concepts. His sense of satisfaction comes from creating concepts that help partners and customers understand what QS Solutions does. When they see themselves reflected in the content. “That’s what makes marketing in IT so much fun!”
His hobby has helped Enes grow tremendously as a person. He reads a lot about motivation, discipline, and the importance of consistency and now knows what works and what doesn’t on social media. This knowledge perfectly complements his daily work at QS Solutions.
Enes on QS solutions
“QS Solutions has traditionally been a self-managing organization. You have complete freedom to organize your work and hours as you see fit. For some colleagues, this means they mainly work from home, while others prefer to be in the office most of the time and regularly ask their manager for help or guidance. It’s just about what suits you better!
“Chef and Bo, our ‘office dogs,’ are regularly at the office”
The organization is very informal—we even have two ‘office dogs,’ Chef and Bo, who are regularly at the office—and 100% transparent. You always get support from the management, and even though there are no formal performance reviews, they’re always there for you at the slightest problem. I think it’s a fantastic company to work for!”
