Identity & Access Management (IAM) expert at heart

In this series, we introduce our team to you one by one. What is their function within QS solutions? Who are they as a person? Why are they a match for the organization? And what do they actually do in their spare time? This will give you as a customer, business partner or new colleague a picture of the people behind our logo!

In today’s spotlight:
René Vastenhout – IAM expert, cycling enthusiast and long-distance skater

René has been an Identity & Access Management (IAM) consultant within the Security and Infrastructure team at QS Solutions for six years. He is a true expert with a wealth of experience in various IT roles throughout his career. From system administrator, engineer, and infrastructure consultant, to infrastructure architect, technical project manager, project manager, and consultant. Always with IAM as the common thread. A true Senior, indeed!

“I enjoy working on a project basis – with a clear beginning and end – the most.”

During the week, you’ll usually find René on-site with the client. And when possible, he enjoys coming to the QS office in Amersfoort for a change of pace and to catch up with colleagues. “I’m done with working from home since COVID!” he says with a laugh.

Versatile Within the Security and Infrastructure Team

Thanks to his many years of experience, René is versatile and can handle various tasks, from hands-on technical projects to assignments that require more leadership and management skills. His knowledge and skills are also incredibly valuable for implementing Microsoft products. “No day is the same!” says René.

René isn’t someone who simply carries out tasks; he always makes an effort to involve the client, ensuring that he can share his expertise.

“The more complex, the more fun”

Analytical Thinking

What René finds most appealing about Identity & Access Management is that it’s so tangible and has a clear beginning and end. “It’s more of a business puzzle than an IT issue, with the goal of helping the end user. That’s very satisfying.”

He also enjoys complicated cases that require analytical thinking to correctly—and safely—manage access rights and permissions. The more complex, the better!

Elfstedentocht

René lives in Nieuw-Vennep with his son and dog. Although he is practically glued to his computer during work hours, that’s not the case in his free time! Then, his laptop is closed, and it’s time to clear his head.

“I’m aiming for a new personal record in the next edition!”

René on QS Solutions

“The informal and relaxed atmosphere at QS Solutions suits me perfectly. There’s a lot of room and freedom to work flexibly, and at the same time, there’s never an expectation that you’ll pick up tasks or answer emails in the evenings or on weekends. Additionally, the level of support is high: if you need something, it’s arranged, often even before you’ve asked! I’m a team player, both during and outside of work, and at QS Solutions, I’m exactly where I belong.”
