Identity & Access Management (IAM) expert at heart

Meet the team

In this series we introduce our team to you one by one. What is their role within QS solutions? Who are they as a person? Why are they a match with the organization? And what do they actually do in their spare time? This will give you, as a customer, business partner or new colleague, an idea of the people behind our logo!

In today’s spotlight:

René Vastenhout – IAM-expert, keen cyclist, and long-distance ice skater

René has been an Identity & Access Management (IAM) consultant within the QS solutions Security and Infrastructure team for six years now. He is a true experience-based expert and has already held all kinds of positions in IT during his working life. He worked as a system administrator, engineer and infrastructure consultant, but also as an infrastructure architect, technical project leader, project manager and consultant. IAM always being the common thread. As you can tell, he’s a real Senior!

“I like working on a project basis – with a clear beginning and end.””

During the week you can usually find René at the customer’s site. And whenever possible, he likes to pay a visit to the QS office in Amersfoort for a change of scenery, to catch up with colleagues. “Ever since COVID, I’ve had enough of working from home!”, he says with a laugh.

Multi-deployable within the Security and Infrastructure team

Thanks to his many years of experience, René is widely deployable for all kinds of jobs, from hands-on technical projects to assignments that require more guiding and leadership qualities. His knowledge and skills are also extremely valuable for the implementation of Microsoft products. “No two days are the same!”, says René.

René is not someone who simply carries out assignments, but always does his utmost to involve the customer, so he can share his expertise.

“The more complex, the more fun”

Analytical thinking

According to René, the great thing about Identity & Access Management is that it is so tangible and has a clear beginning and end. “It is more of a business puzzle than an IT issue, and aims to help the end user. That is very satisfying.”

Moreover, he likes complicated cases that require analytical thinking to correctly – and securely! – interpret access rights and permissions. The more complex, the more fun!

Eleven Cities Ice Skating Tour

René lives in Nieuw-Vennep with his son and dog. Although he is more or less fused with his computer during working hours, that is certainly not the case in his spare time! As soon as he’s shut down his laptop, it’s time to clear his head.

He loves to get on his road bike to go for a ride with friends, and from October onwards he can be found on the ice rink again. Not just as an enthusiast, but as a diehard ice-skating fanatic. He’s a member of the Royal “Vereniging De Friesche Elf Steden” (Association of the Friesian Eleven Cities Ice Skating Tour), and participated several times in the Alternative Eleven Cities Ice Skating Tour Weissensee in Austria, which means skating 200 kilometers in one day! “In the next edition I will go for a new personal best!

René about QS solutions

“The informal and relaxed atmosphere at QS solutions suits me perfectly. Everyone is given a lot of space and freedom to work flexibly, and at the same time no one would ever expect you to resolve non-urgent issues or answer emails during the evening or weekend. Moreover, the level of commitment is high: if there’s anything you need, it is taken care of, often even before you’ve even asked for it! I am a team player, both during and outside work, and I feel completely at home at QS solutions.”

Is Identity & Access Management one of your organization’s top priorities – or not yet – and could you use some expertise on this topic? Do you wonder what René might be able to do for you? Let us know! We are happy to help.
