In today’s spotlight:
Mariette Jansen – lead consultant for Qare365, people person and skilled embroiderer
Back for a Second Time
Mariette is, in fact, working at QS Solutions for the second time. The first time—many years ago now—it was still called DBS Business Solutions, but the management team was almost the same as it is today. Back then, she worked as a marketer for about ten years. She enjoyed it immensely, but due to developments in the field of the internet and e-marketing, she decided to move on and work elsewhere as an online marketer.
Fifteen years and various companies and roles later, she felt it was time for a change again. She saw a vacancy for the QS Solutions service desk, took the plunge, and applied. Fortunately for her, the search for someone with completed CRM training had so far been unsuccessful, giving her the chance she had hoped for.
From Commodore to Qare365
After nearly two years on the service desk, Mariette advanced to the role of lead consultant for Qare365, QS Solutions’ CRM solution focused on the healthcare sector. It didn’t stop there: she recently became a product owner as well. This means that, in addition to her other duties, she is now also closely involved in the further development of the product.
“A Lifelong Affinity for Software”
The interest in software was there early on. As a child, Mariette was already hooked on her first Commodore. A course of study in that field seemed logical, but since such programs were hardly geared towards women at the time, she ultimately chose a different direction. Nevertheless, her affinity for software remained. For years, she was an avid player of games like Age of Empires, RollerCoaster Tycoon, and Minecraft. Later, during her career as an online marketer, she built websites and prototypes herself.
Embroidery Artworks
Mariette is married and, in addition to two now adult children, has a dachshund (Abby) and a cat (Romy). In her spare time, she usually seeks peace and quiet, as a counterbalance to her busy job. Her now 89-year-old father-in-law taught her to embroider, and thanks to him, Mariette now knows the intricacies of the craft. She creates real artworks, but her husband is critical: only the very best embroidery pieces are allowed to be hung in the house. After all, he grew up with embroidery and has an eye for it!
The remaining free hours Mariette spends reading (“mainly fantasy, detective stories, and thrillers”), gardening, cycling, and walking. She enjoys spending time with friends and her children. “Cooking together, catching up, and laughing a lot!” She also loves to travel. So much so, that she dreams of one day going on a six-month trip with a camper or convertible, traveling with the sun or exploring the edges of Europe.
Preferably with the Client
Mariette is involved in the implementation and support of the intake process at healthcare institutions. This involves the process of registering new patients in Qare365 to find the best match for their care needs and to optimally support the client’s journey from A to Z. For this, Mariette works two to three days a week at the client’s location and one to two days remotely.
“I’m the central coordinator connecting all the dots”
What Mariette enjoys most about her work is the contact with clients and colleagues. She’s a people person and a connector, and she draws energy from working with different people in a constructive and dynamic way towards a common goal. As a lead consultant, she is responsible for the client, and it’s not just about building and implementing Qare365. She plays an advisory role, thinks along about processes, and is essentially the central coordinator connecting all the dots.
The knowledge and experience she gained in her roles as an (online) marketer come in handy here. “The intake process in healthcare is also a customer journey with different touchpoints, so it’s important to design the process as well as possible in the software and continually assess where you’re adding measurable value. At what points can you make the process even better and more enjoyable? How do you encourage the end user to take the next step? Helping clients with that, that’s what I enjoy the most!”
Mariette on QS Solutions
“The support from the team was very pleasant from the start. When I began at the service desk, I immediately had the opportunity and time to earn the relevant Microsoft certifications. With these certifications under my belt, I was able to better answer client questions and had the chance to resolve issues to take the load off the consultants. Step by step, I progressed over a few years from service desk employee to junior consultant to lead consultant, and now even product owner.
“Especially since COVID, the emphasis at the office is on camaraderie”
I appreciate the flexibility in my work, both in terms of location and time. I work 36 hours, but instead of taking a half day off each week, I’m off every other Friday. It’s great that this is possible! I regularly work from home, where there are no distractions and I can focus 100% on what I want to accomplish that day. At the office—especially since COVID—the emphasis for me is on connecting with colleagues and camaraderie, and there is plenty of room for that. Of course, we still have meetings on those days, but it’s more relaxed than before. The goal is to inspire each other and work together to achieve the best results for the client and the company.”
